Winter Wedding

Lewis had just started his business in the oilfield and was working in North Dakota but had just moved home to Lansing, MI. Sarah had just bought her first home in Lansing, was working as a Medical Assistant and going to school. They had a mutual friend, Kristina. Kristina has an amazing son, Ayden. In December of 2013, Ayden was diagnosed with an Ependymoma brain tumor. Sarah started fundraising to raise money for their family. Lewis reached out to her to donate. They met a few times in passing and continued to text/talk with updates about Ayden. Updates turned into talking about everything. Lewis was scheduled to come home from work 3 days after Sarah's 24th birthday that following June. He sent her a dozen roses and chocolate-covered strawberries to her work on her birthday. All of her friends insisted he was not just "some boy" anymore. Their first date was a couple of nights later. Lewis made her homemade macaroni and cheese; the rest was history & they haven't parted since.

Lewis took me to his Fraternity’s biannual reunion in Houghton, MI. On our way home we stopped in Charlevoix, a place he took me for my 25th birthday (so romantic), we had taken a sailboat out to sunset on Lake Michigan for my birthday that year. He said we should try to catch the sunset cruise. He swung by the gas station for snacks, he secretly bought champagne and those little plastic champagne glasses. The first mate on the sailboat always goes around at sunset and asks guests if they want her to take a photo. She took one of us and then Lewis asked her to get one more and that’s when showed me the ring.

Wedding day highlight was definitely seeing Lewis for the first look. I just held him for a minute. All the stress of the morning and worrying melted away. Nothing could wrong from then on.

Advice would be don’t let people pull you in different directions. I was very upfront about that and it worked out well. I enjoyed my wedding. I danced, I ate dinner and cake. It’s your day, don’t get busy entertaining others.

Credit for our amazing big day goes to my dad first and foremost. My amazing wedding planner Ashley Lynch the owner of Festoons and Flourishes. Our entire wedding party. Last but not least all of Fantastic Finds and Hilda who did amazing things with all of our dresses!!!
